My passion for photography began in my early teens, over forty five years ago. My first camera purchased in 1976, was an Olympus OM-1. Ergonomically, a beautiful camera! It performed admirably! In October 2022, I purchased the Olympus OM-1 digital camera - 50 years after the release of the OM-1 film camera.
My father Leon enjoyed recording family events and almost every Saturday morning he took me along to camera stores in Sydney City. He loved exploring 'dingy' city lanes with his passion for black and white photography, but he also enjoyed conversing with the camera salesman at Paxtons. I purchased the OM1 from Fletchers in Pitt Street near Town Hall. Now the location of Ted's Cameras.
Dad loved the subjective beauty of the Sydney cityscape and his camera was a tool to simply record the places where he was most at home in his life. He had a preference for the black and white medium, and often printed 10 x 8 glossy enlargements in our laundry.
Together we would discuss concepts such as composition, sharpness, grain, aperture, shutter speed, sensitivity and other aspects of a well made image.
My journey began with Dad's guiding hand all those years ago. Dad wasn't perfect . . . but I loved him and valued the things close to his heart.
Although my interest has waxed and waned over the years due to the busyness of life, Writing with light (Photography) is a passion that I fully engage in now that I have the time to embrace life in qualitative terms.
I enjoy photographing landscapes, nature, portraiture and Cityscapes. I don't consider myself an artist, I simply enjoy recording the things close to my heart with creativity. Well, I suppose I do engage in art.
If my images have 'fine art' (containing aesthetic and intellectual considerations) qualities achieved through my continuing learning experiences, I am pleased. My motivation however, is to capture a scene created by God in a manner that evokes positive emotions.
When not taking photos I engage in Church life (photographing church and writing policy) and meeting friends for coffee. I am blessed with a loving wife Heather, two beautiful Daughters, Jessica Jean and Nicole May, a sweet little doggie Toby and three gorgeous Grandchildren, Peter, Jemimah and Annabelle. I also have a charming and loving son-in-law Tom who is undertaking his PhD in theology at Cambridge University. They are living in Little Shelford near Cambridge and will be returning to Australia in November 2022.
Heavenly Father, your word . . . Psalm 144 . . . tells me that Daughters are like graceful pillars carved to beautify a palace. I think of my Daughters as corner stones, a blessing for our whole Family. Uniting the Family just as corner stones join walls together. I thank God for blessing me with Jessy and Colie. I know I'm not a perfect father but I thank God for being THE perfect Father for them.
I hope you enJOY my images.
May the God of hope fill you with all JOY and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
